Kalachakra is one of the most complex Vajrayana practices within the Sarma, or "New Translation" schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The name Kalachakra (Skt., Wheel of Time) refers both to a tantric deity and to the philosophical teachings and meditation practices of the Kalachakra Tantra. As a highest yoga tantra (Skt. Anuttarayoga Tantra), Kalachakra practice is regarded as one of the most elaborate and sophisticated systems leading to enlightenment, its mandala containing no fewer than 722 deity figures.
